Frequently asked questions

  • What condition is the machine in, and how can I be sure?

Every machine at Smitma undergoes a thorough technical inspection before it appears on the website. We check all critical components using a fixed checklist (inspection list): rotating parts, undercarriage components (tracks, rollers and undercarriage components), hydraulics, engine, electronics and the cab. The information you find on the product page is what you get:
    • Verified operating hours, read via a diagnostic computer (not from the meter)
    • Photos from every angle, including wear and any repairs
    • Condition description with specific comments on defects or recent work
  • What are the exact operating hours, and how were they checked?

The operating hours are shown on every product page. We read the hours via a diagnostic computer, not from the meter, as the meter can be rolled back. The computer printout is available on request. As an indication:
    • Under 5,000 hours: young, minimal wear
    • 5,000 to 10,000 hours: well run in, but still with a long service life ahead
    • Over 10,000 hours: depends on maintenance; we always give the critical components extra attention
The maintenance history and usage are at least as important as the operating hours. We always tell you what we know about the machine's origin.
  • Are more photos and videos available?

Yes. The photos on the product page are a selection. We always have more visual material available if required:
    • Additional photos of specific parts, wear, hydraulics and cab interior
    • Video of the machine in operation, with the hour reading visible on the display
    • Video of specific functions such as hydraulics, driving behaviour or lifting
Send us a message via WhatsApp or email with exactly what you would like to see. We will respond as quickly as possible and, where needed, take additional photos or videos.
  • What is the serial number, and are the technical specifications available?

The serial number is available under specifications on the product page. The serial number is useful for:
    • Import purposes and machine registration in the destination country
    • Checking the machine's history via the manufacturer or databases
    • Determining parts requirements (some parts are serial-number-specific)
    • Financing or insurance
Technical specifications can also be found on the item page, together with the factory brochure.
  • Why should I buy from Smitma and not somewhere else?

These are the reasons buyers in more than 70 countries choose Smitma:
    • Nearly 60 years of experience: we know what can go wrong, which allows us to ensure you receive a machine of excellent quality
    • Every machine is inspected and, where needed, repaired
    • Full-service provider: from purchasing advice to delivery at the destination port, we take care of everything
    • Direct communication: you always speak with a dedicated account manager who can answer your questions
    • All export documents are correctly prepared: no issues later at customs
    • Reliable machines ready for work: our goal is for your machine to arrive ready to perform
We're not a broker. We buy machines, inspect them thoroughly, refurbish them and sell them with genuine expertise. Take a look at our references too at Feedbackcompany.com
  • Can I trust Smitma for a major purchase?

A fair question when you're spending tens of thousands of euros. Smitma has been around for nearly 60 years and in that time has sold hundreds of machines to customers in more than 70 countries worldwide.
    • Registered company in the Netherlands: KvK 17065565
    • Payments via ABN AMRO, the Netherlands' most reliable bank
    • Permanent location in Venlo, visitors always welcome
    • References available on request: we're happy to connect you with a previous buyer in your region
We provide clear and transparent information only and supply all export documents correctly.
  • What is the price including transport to my country?

The price on the product page is the price of the machine excluding transport. Transport costs vary by destination, method (RoRo, container, low-loader) and timing. Request an all-in quote, specifying:
    • Your destination port or address
    • Your preference for RoRo or container
    • Whether you'll arrange a carrier yourself or would like us to handle it
We'll then send you a complete quote as soon as possible, covering the price of the machine and transport costs. No hidden costs afterward.
  • Is the machine still available, and how do I reserve it?

Machines on our website are available unless marked 'Sold'. Popular machines, especially CAT excavators and graders can sometimes be sold within a day or a few days. The process of reserving works as follows:
    • With a deposit: the machine is removed from the website immediately and is reserved exclusively for you
    • Without a deposit, we can't guarantee a reservation
Please contact us directly if you are seriously interested in a machine. We will inform you of any other interested parties.
  • Can I come and view the machine?

Absolutely, you're more than welcome. Our premises in Venlo are easy to reach from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
    • Viewing by appointment or without appointment: Monday to Friday, 07:00–17:30 CET
    • We'll have the machine prepared and ready to start
    • You are welcome to bring your own inspector or colleague
    • Test drive is possible on our premises
    • Prefer to buy remotely? We can provide a live video tour via WhatsApp or FaceTime and showcase a specific machine
    • For international buyers: we can also arrange an independent third-party inspection
Our location: Venlo, the Netherlands; 45 minutes from Düsseldorf Airport, 10 minutes from Blerick train station, on the A67 towards Germany and Belgium. Schedule a viewing by email or WhatsApp. We'll confirm an appointment as soon as possible.
  • Can the machine be shipped to my country?

Yes. We ship machines worldwide to West Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Asia. We've been doing this for decades and are familiar with shipping companies, ports and documentation requirements. What we arrange for you:

    • CE certificate if available
    • Deregistration certificate if available

Please include your destination in your enquiry and we'll include transport costs in the quotation.

Used machines are sold in the condition described. We don't provide a warranty, but we remain available after the machine has been sold.
    • Always reachable for technical advice after purchase
    • Parts available through our parts division
Describe the problem as specifically as possible with photos or video, and we'll be able to respond fastest.
  • Can I rent a machine?

Unfortunately, we don't offer machines for rental. Looking for flexibility? For an additional fee, we can help you with financing options such as a Letter of Credit with deferred payment of up to 1 year. Please contact us for more information.
  • How safe is your way of doing business?

When you purchase a machine or part from Smitma, you naturally want to pay securely. That is why we work with ABN AMRO, the Netherlands' most reliable bank, to process all transactions. In addition, we operate with clear and transparent information and ensure that all required documents are properly provided. We will get back to you as soon as possible. We understand that international buyers may be in different time zones and therefore may contact us outside office hours.
  • What are the transport options?

We can ship machines and parts in different ways, depending on size, destination and urgency:
    • Container: suitable for smaller machines and parts
    • RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off): for drivable machines
